This medal was issued to soldiers involved in mine mine and explosive clearing operations such as those during the Soviet-Afghan War (1979-1989). The text translates to, "For Mine Clearing". Notably the soldier depicted on the center is using an older UMIV-1 mine detector from the 1950s. The medal is made from an aluminum alloy and held by a folding pin.
