The Mauritanian banknote represents the 1st denomination of the "Old" Ouguiya (Series 2004). The observe features a complex geometric design, based on local Moorish traditions. The reverse depicts a cow grazing in front of Chinguetti Mosque, at Ksar (Castle) Chinguetti. Besides this image is an ardin, a traditional harp from Mauritania.
